Pucklechurch Trading Estate

History

People have been living in the area surrounding what is now the village of Pucklechurch since at least the Stone Age. The name comes from Saxon or even Celtic times, with “Puca” meaning goblin to reflect the rumoured presence of supernatural creatures. Pucklechurch is mentioned in the Domesday Book. It grew and thrived during Tudor times when it became the home of many wealthy merchants. Its success was thanks to its successful agriculture industry. The trading estate itself had its origins as the airfield of RAF Pucklechurch.

Location and Travel

Situated in South Gloucestershire, on the edge of the Cotswolds, the village of Pucklechurch is just 8 miles from the major cities of Bristol (to the southwest) and Bath (to the southeast). It sits on a raised plateau. The majority of the immediate surrounding area remains agricultural, with both dairy and arable farms.

The nearest major road to Pucklechurch is the M4, but there is also easy access to the M32 and with it the rest of the national motorway network. It is also close to the Avon ring road. Yate, Keynsham and Bristol Parkway railway stations are all within five miles. Bristol Temple Meads station acts as a hub for travel between the West Country, London, Wales and even Scotland. Trains run directly to London, Cardiff, Birmingham, Plymouth, Manchester and Aberdeen. Bristol also has an airport and bus station, all connected by the airport flyer.

Local Amenities

Pucklechurch has all the basic amenities, including three pubs, a post office, primary school, church and a selection of local shops, suitable for the population of around 3000 people. At the centre of it all is the busy community centre. Events often take place on the large village green next door. The Revel is a regular celebration, and the village also hosts a beer festival. You can also go walking in the beautiful countryside nearby.

The 20-acre trading estate is just outside of the village. It contains freehold, multi-let units. Companies based on the estate have worked in fields including insulation, vehicle repair, electronics, business services, tool hire, solicitors, manufacturing, distribution, catering, freight and ecommerce, to name just a few.
